Yury Trutnev, Russian Minister of Natural Resources, visited Canada in December, 2006. During his visit he held talks with his Canadian counterpart, the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources as well as participated in the meetings with the Canadian business circles and met with Gail Beggs, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of the Government of Ontario.
During the meeting with Minister Lunn on the 5th of December, the two sides exchanged their opinions on further cooperation between Canada and the Russian Federation in exploration, development and efficient use of natural resources, stated that development of natural resources is one of the key sectors of both Russian and Canadian economies. Both Ministers informed each other on the present situation and major fields of natural resources development in the two countries and also steps taken to strengthen international cooperation in this sphere. |

Sergey Kruglik, Head of Federal Agency of the Russian Federation for Construction and Housing and Municipal Services (Rosstroy), paid a visit to Canada. Within the frameworks of the Construction Working Group of Canada-Russia Intergovernmental Economic Commission he held a number of meetings in Toronto from 27th of November till December 1st, 2006. The key outcome of the visit was Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Rosstroy and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) on November, 28. |

Andrey Nikolaevich, how does the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade assess development of the Russian economy summarizing the results of the first three quarters of the current year? - In general we assess economic development as being rather good. Economic growth during the first three quarters of 2006 accounted for 6.6% that exceeds our expectations. It is important to note that the growth was supported by increase of investment activities that makes me believe we would not only reach planned forecasted parameters for this year, but GDP growth and investment increase could even slightly exceed the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade forecasts. |

Schwab, U.S. Trade Representative, signed in Hanoi the Russian-American Protocol that ends negotiations over Russia's accession to the WTO The USA are the 56th WTO member to complete negotiations with Russia over access to commodity markets, and the 27th WTO member to complete bilateral negotiations over access to services markets. It has been a long-awaited event. |
